What I Do

With 25 years of fitness education and full-time practice, my individualized physical training moves clients from wherever their bodies are (including different stages of fitness and health, and takes into account current illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and/or post-operative conditions), to increasing their overall strength, agility, stamina, balance and better posture.

My passion is in helping others find their groove in exercise.

This started in 1993, while working at the San Diego Zoo. I inadvertently helped my fellow Security Officers become fit by challenging them to push-ups and pull-ups during our long 10-hour shifts.

My approach to exercise was enhanced while working in the Fitness Department at the La Jolla Family YMCA. In 1998, our Y was one of a handful selected for a pilot program on Exercise Adherence (The Psychology of Exercise Adherence). I was sold. It was a perfect fit and in-line with my thinking.

By 2004, I was self-employed full-time. During my time as a Trainer, I have worked with clients along with their Physical Therapists, before and after hip and knee replacements, back surgery, and shoulder surgery. My clients continued to work with me while being treated for Parkinson’s, cancer, and DVT, to name a few illnesses.

“Heather has trained me for 23 years. She has been aware of my body needs through a cancer surgery and a fever of unknown origin recovery. I am now 85 and I do 80+ easy exercises which keep me pain free, walking 3 or more miles, going up and down stairs (2 story house), and even plan to take our annual trip to a horse ranch and ride everyday. Heather is always on time and prepared for my lesson.”

“Life is Practice, Practice is Life.” — Judith Hanson Lasater

Exercise is practice. Practice is exercise. Just showing up is success. If you choose to not exercise, you are still successful. Your success is that you kept your appointment. This redefines your meaning of success. It changes your mindset and ultimately your behavior.
